Dave Zien

Wisconsin state senator and motorcyclist rights advocate at the state level.

Dave Zien is best known for defending motorcyclists' rights while serving in the Wisconsin Legislature. But he also rode his 1991 Harley-Davidson Sport Glide more than 1 million miles.

Born on March 15, 1950, Zien was a U.S. marine who served in Vietnam from 1968-70. He earned a seat in the Wisconsin House in 1988 and immediately began championing motorcyclists' rights. In 1993, he began serving in the Senate, rising to president pro tempore in 2005. He left the Legislature in 2006.

In addition to being a lawmaker, Zien served as vice president of the Wisconsin Better Bikers Association. He was well known for riding around on his Harley-Davidson with full-size American and Wisconsin flags on his bike.

On April 4, 2009, Zien rolled up to the Harley-Davidson factory in Milwaukee on his FXRT and retired his motorcycle after riding it more than 1 million miles. The Harley-Davidson Motor Company honored him by presenting him with a brand-new 2009 Road Glide.
