Scot Harden talks about riding the Dakar Rally for the first time

Video by Grant Parsons

Scot Harden, a member of the 2008 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, has had one of the most enduring off-road racing careers in history.

Harden has raced across the United States, Europe and South America. He has won the Baja 1000 twice and is a three-time medalist as the International Six Days Enduro. In 1987, Harden won both the 1987 Djerba 500 Rally (Tunisia) and the 1987 Rallye de Atlas (Morocco).

It was relatively late in his career, however, in 2004, when Harden first found himself at the start line of what many consider the world's toughest off-road race, the Dakar Rally. How'd he deal with it? Even he was kind of freaked, at least for a few moments.
