Larry “Supermouth” Huffman’s strangest race

Video by Grant Parsons

Larry "Supermouth" Huffman has one of the most memorable voices in motorcycling. The former disc jockey started announcing at California's Costa Mesa Speedway in the late 1960s, and since then, he has announced at nearly every type of motorcycle race in nearly every major city in the United States, Canada, and Japan.

Huffman was the announcer at the first Superbowl of Motocross at the Los Angeles Coliseum in 1972, and was soon after nicknamed "Supermouth" by the Los Angeles Times for his 300 word-per-minute delivery and his ability to excite crowds.

We caught up with Huffman at his induction into the 2009 class of the AMA's Motorcycle Hall of Fame. Here, he talks about one of his most bizarre moments announcing a race – at a Supercross event in Kyoto, Japan, to a stadium full of people who did not understand English.
